A Central Texas company is joining Gov. Ernie Fletcher's Prescription for Innovation
plan to provide high-speed Internet access to all Kentuckians by 2007.
Broadband Horizons, the first company in Texas and one of a handful in the nation to successfully launch broadband service over power lines, is the latest to join the multi-partner ConnectKentucky initiative, which includes companies such as Alltel, the University of Louisville and BellSouth Corp.
"The addition of Broadband Horizons to the ConnectKentucky partnership will further my administration's objective to deliver community-by-community broadband planning and deployment," Fletcher said in a news release.
As part of its partnership with ConnectKentucky, Broadband Horizons has agreed to provide engineering services, deliver broadband network design and implementation plans for a number of Kentucky communities, the release said. The company also plans to establish a Kentucky office in order to better support the initiative.
