10/5/2004 AUSTIN--Central Texas companies Momentum Online and Summa Associates have formed a strategic alliance and a new company that is the first in Texas to offer broadband over power lines. Broadband Horizons (www.broadbandhorizons.com) is a leading provider of BPL and other wireless services to small and medium-sized communities through municipally-owned utilities throughout the United States.
Momentum Online is an Internet service provider and Summa Associates specializes in building community-wide Internet networks. The company’s principals—Bob McClung and Michael Bates, respectively—along with several investors, formed Broadband Horizons.
According to McClung of Momentum Online, “This new venture is a natural outgrowth of our companies’ successful partnerships in building community networks across Texas. Broadband Horizons is working with utilities to leverage existing infrastructure—the power grid—to offer broadband Internet services to communities around the country.”
